Laureus USA Signs on to PLAY Sports Coalition as an Advisory Committee Member
A coalition has been formed to advocate for federal relief funding to support the youth sports sector in response to COVID-19. PLAY Sports, which stands for Promoting Local and Youth Sports, represents a united front to support young athletes, working families, coaches and volunteers across all 50 states, particularly those in underserved areas, through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Laureus USA has joined the Advisory Committee alongside several other organizations (including other SBYD organizations). We wish to share our intent and promise to the Sport for Good community as follows:
1. As a funder and leader in the sports based youth development space, we have a history of working collaboratively with organizations nationally, and locally through our Sport for Good Cities program, to understand and build consensus around the core needs and pillars of the SBYD sector. We joined this effort to represent and share what we’ve been hearing directly from you.
2. Laureus USA will bring that same collaborative spirit to this coalition to advocate for the needs of grassroots and community organizations who are working in under resourced communities across the country.
3. As more data has been released, we have learned that COVID-19 is disproportionally affecting low-income communities, specifically those communities of color. As such, we will use our voice as a an Advisory Committee member to advocate that funding received through this effort (if successful) is adequately distributed to the communities that need it most.
4. We believe it is critical that sports based youth development organizations have a prominent voice in these discussions, and we take this responsibility and opportunity to advocate for our sector very seriously.
